About Us | Historical Background

1. University of Cooperative and Management is located Ywahtaung quarter, Monywa-Mandalay Highway Road, east side in Sagaing Township, Sagaing district and Sagaing division. The former co-operative training school for Kachin, Chin and Sagaing regions was advanced into Co-operative College, Sagaing, and then into Co-operative University, Sagaing, and then University name has changed to University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing on 5th November, 2021.

2. State and Division level co-operative training school was launched in October, 1972 in Monywa, Sagaing Division. Sagaing on a measure of 21.70-acres compound in ShweThama Quarter, Sagaing on 10th January 1982. After that, it started on 27th September 1983 by providing Co-operative Accounting and Auditing Training (2/1983-1984). To implement the project, the new training school was built with a fund provided by co-operatives in Kachin, Chin and Sagaing. According to the planning, Regional Co-operative College, Sagaing accepted enrollment of applicants on 26th August 1996 and U Than Aung, Minister, Ministry of Co-operative opened college on 17th September 1996. In the Later, according to the constitution of education system, it was changed into Co- operative College, Sagaing.

3.Academic Year to 1998-1999 Academic Year, Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accountancy (CBA) was offered. After that, from 1998-1999 Academic Year to 2011-2012 Academic Year, the following diploma courses were provided.

  • Diploma in Marketing Management (Dip: M.M)
  • Diploma in Business Management (Dip: B.M)

4. The Meeting (20/2012) of the Union of the Republic of Myanmar held on 31st May 2012 confirmed the formation of Co-operative University. Ministry of Co-operative granted to advance Co-operative College into University level by the Notification No. (29/2012) dated on 21st June 2012. According to the instruction of President of the Union of the Republic of Myanmar, the opening ceremony of Co-operative University, Sagaing was celebrated on 12 February 2012, 65th Union Day and ceremony of posting singboard of Co-operative University, Sagaing. At the college level, the original area of the compound was 19.70 acres, and then Department of Co-operative, Sagaing Division handed 1.71 acres over to Co-operative College, Sagaing. Therefore, the total area of Co-operative College, Sagaing was 21.41 acres. At the university level, there was not enough space in the compound, and thus the compound was extended to the related area of other ministries. After negotiating with related ministries in accordance with official procedures, Co-operative University, Sagaing received 2.714 acres from Department of Agriculture and 1.928 acres from Ministry of Industry, Textile Industry, No(3) Textile Session, Cotton Mill (Sagaing). After that, Main Building and three storery building were built on the extended area in 2013-2014 Fiscal Year, and then acceptance of students was started in 2014-2015 Academic Year.

5. University name has changed to University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing on 5th November 2021.
